So when I first started this book it did not engage me But I decided to read through some of the Sparknotes chapter and theme summaries. After that the book suddenly became interesting...and relevant to the times we live in. If you consider the idea that the book's protagonist is a hero by avoiding war, rather than engaging in heroic acts...it is becomes an interesting statement about war and sanity
