ok this last story is much much more interesting and cool than the first few.

i just realized my error, lol. the audio for this must have only been released in 2021, bc that's the pub date audible lists for it, so i did not realize until just now that it was first published in 94. that explains why i've been going "man, this feels dated," lmao.

heteronormativity is boring, they should have had erana be betrothed to the princess

this feels like a book of fairy tales, not only for the ways the plots and structures pull directly from folklore, but also how the characters could really be anyone-- universality is good when you want your readers to imagine themselves in the roles of the characters, but for an adult looking for more of aerin or tor or at least characters as unique as they, it's a little flat.
