I really don't understand Elias. To be honest, I don't get Laia's feelings either.
She sees Keenan once and pretty much instantly gets butterflies in her stomach. Then Elias also sees her like 2 times and keeps thinking about her. But then he also sort of likes Helene... I am a bit confused, but probably not nearly as confuseed as the protagonists are.
