Chewy but not hard to read. His focus is on the mountainous plain of Southeast Asia where for centuries various tribes have avoided (until lately) being absorbed into the nearby nation-states. In that sense, an anarchist history. The author is an agrarian policy guy, so I like that he comes to his central points from that perspective.
