I like how these books run parallel and you get to see the events from different POVs. But copying entire pages without much personal reflection from Imrik and than expect me to be on board when he suddenly changes his stubborn, isolationist view and be angry not to be picked for the role he has been refusing for a 100 pages is not great storytelling.
Makes him seem petty and childish.

And so the beginning of the end commences.
The battle was exhilarating, what a fantastic chain of viscous encounters in a swirl of chaos.

Even more speeding up, with only small segments of dialogue and grand military movements and large time periods passing.
Having character developments be narrated, rather than shown and a couple of bad spelling errors gives these last 100 pages a rushed and unfinished feeling. Shame, but I am enjoying it non the less.

Oh my, what is this, 150 pages left and some actual positive character development and introspection from Imrik/Caledor?
Also, hell yeah, he's back bitches.

I had vowed to stick to Mask of Fear to finish it in a week, in time for Into the Light's arrival..But here I am.
Some quickening of the story passing with months at a time and general descriptions of events.
That Battle of Avelorn with Morathi in the lead was chilling and horrifying. Love it.
Also very nice to see multiple perspectives confirming that most think Imrik/Caledor to be a total pos.

Excellent, excellent, so Imrik/Caledor's POV has been greatly reduced, if not replaced, with a handful of other more interesting and sympathetic characters. Makes for so much better an experience.

Ugh, I really can't care for Imrik.
Giving him super powers out of nowhere that completely nullify the 8-elf assassin squad does not serve storytelling, it feels cheap.

Oh hey, we're back to Imrik's POV...
Honestly, these past 50 pages were fantastic, seeing events from the others. Especially getting more Morathi/Malekith was sorely needed.

I get that the main characters of the Sundering series are all troubled antiheroes, but Imrik is just an elitist ass with very few inherent motivations but battle. He spends years away not caring about his family, only returning on order. He then is grumpy to be send to the Phoenix court yet refuses responsibility at every turn but gets enraged when he gets passed for the role he didn't want.
