I made a poor decision years ago and continue to choose to pay the price.
I tried to do the same once. Read them in publication order up to the books published around oh 2000-2001. There’s a few decent hidden gems but …yeah. (I also remember there is one elminster novel that’s soooo bad it’s good. )
