Maral Boyadjian Hi, Amy. The houses were made of mud bricks which I understand were composed of mud, hay and dung. The houses themselves were generally square or rectangular with flat roofs, and small, highly placed windows. As the families grew, rooms were added on however the terrain allowed. All rooms of the house, which would often house up to 90 family members, were accessible from the inside. The people lived this way so that they could act as a unit when attacked by the local Kurds and Turks.
Maral Boyadjian The story told in this book spans from 1913 to 1915. At the end, we see that Vrej is one of the survivors of the village of Salor. It would take a sequel to tell about what he did and where he went after that. Derya was a brief example of a woman, who, although not Christian, was living her own life of persecution at the hands of her ignorant husband.
