The houses were made of mud bricks which I understand were composed of mud, hay and dung. The houses themselves were generally square or rectangular with flat roofs, and small, highly placed windows. As the families grew, rooms were added on however the terrain allowed. All rooms of the house, which would often house up to 90 family members, were accessible from the inside. The people lived this way so that they could act as a unit when attacked by the local Kurds and Turks. (less)
