Amy asked Maral Boyadjian:

Could you give a description of what a typical Armenian house in Salor would look like? I have been researching Armenian culture since I've been reading the book and I can't seem to get a definitive idea of what a mountain village home would would consist of. Thanks! I'm loving the book!

Maral Boyadjian Hi, Amy. The houses were made of mud bricks which I understand were composed of mud, hay and dung. The houses themselves were generally square or rectangular with flat roofs, and small, highly placed windows. As the families grew, rooms were added on however the terrain allowed. All rooms of the house, which would often house up to 90 family members, were accessible from the inside. The people lived this way so that they could act as a unit when attacked by the local Kurds and Turks.
