I wrote a story about this on my blog. I walk away for a day maybe, not longer than that though. I think. I get out and go places, get around people. I find a book that really entices me and I read. I talk to my husband about ideas. Find someone to be your sound board, to throw ideas at. Writer's block is just your mind telling you ,"I'm tired, take a break."

For me, writing is opening up my soul. It's unleashing things I didn't even know I had in me. I will begin writing and things just come from me. People are always asking me where did you get this character or this character and I always say, I don't know. It just came to me. It's like opening the floodgates of ideas. I guess the best thing about being a writer is finding your true gift, who you are and what you were meant to do on this earth.

Just do it. Don't make excuses. Don't say I will do it one day. Just start writing. If you don't like what you write, it's okay. Just keep trying. NEVER GIVE UP!

#2 in the Quinn Donnelly series. I hope to have it ready to publish in July. The book is not yet titled. The story involves a woman serial killer.

I read and read and read, usually in my genre of Crime Fiction but I do read other genres. People watching inspires me, what they say, how they dress. One of the best inspirations is to sit in a coffee house and pick out someone who stands out to you. Have a notebook with you. Write about this person Describe him/her.. Make up a story about him/her. You can manipulate them anyway you want, they are yours. Listen to conversations around you. I know it eavesdropping, but hey, some people talk really loud. Watch the news. Read newspapers. There is always something out there to inspire you.

I lived in Baton Rouge, La in the late 90's and early 2000's. There was a serial killer stalking Baton Rouge during that time named Derrick Todd Lee. (Actually there were 3 serial killers come to find out some years later). Women lived in fear, not leaving their homes without being escorted. They traveled in groups to go to the grocery store. Eventually Lee was caught but ever since that time I have been interested in the serial killer cases and the psychology of serial killers.I have always wanted to write but I put it off for years. Not said in a way to give credit, but the BR serial killings is what spurned me to write the book HIM.
