Alan R. Jones The Subjective God was a long time coming but where it really cemented into a book in my mind was while listening to Dr RT Kendall preach. He asked an amazing question: If it came down to it would God uphold His Word or His Glory? It's a fundamental question, I'm not giving away the answer, it's in the book.
Alan R. Jones Mostly through scripture. The bible really is living and active. It has the ability to distinguish between my thoughts and my true intents in a way that I cannot even do myself.
But I also get inspired by authors I admire, Tolkien, Lewis, Chesterton, Augustine, Kierkegaard.
Alan R. Jones I am working on a second book in the Subjective series. It is a book about Ethics, The Subjective Life - there is a reason for me.
Alan R. Jones I really enjoyed the movie Finding Forrester about a reclusive writer. His advice to the young prodigy was to write without overthinking, write from your heart. And then to go back and edit it.
I think we are too quick to edit, and we water down our message before we put pen to paper. My advice is pour it out, all of it down to the dregs; don't confuse writing with editing, they are 2 separate processes.
Alan R. Jones I go with Francis Bacon on this one: "Reading maketh a full man, conference a ready man, and writing an exact man."
Alan R. Jones I don't think I ever have writer's block. My trouble is trying to find ways of getting to the writing when there is so much else that needs doing. I find I'm constantly scribbling down notes, many of which I don't get to use.
A few years ago I started using Evernote to keep a track of them, it's useful because it can take multiple formats and I can use it on whatever device is handy.
