I really enjoyed the movie Finding Forrester about a reclusive writer. His advice to the young prodigy was to write without overthinking, write from your heart. And then to go back and edit it.
I think we are too quick to edit, and we water down our message before we put pen to paper. My advice is pour it out, all of it down to the dregs; don't confuse writing with editing, they are 2 separate processes.
