I find inspiration all over the place and I never know when it's going to hit. The minute something pops into my mind, I stop everything and write it down and then make time to write as quickly as possible while it's fresh on my mind. For some strange reason I do my best writing when I am in an airplane. I don't like to fly and often find myself very emotional when I am traveling. I don't know if it is the reflective mood I get in when I fly or the fact that I desperately need the distraction, but it's when the ideas flow so fast my fingers can barely keep up. Luckily, or not, I fly very frequently with my hosting duties.

Honestly, I am mainly working on promoting the first three books in the Little Big Benny series. I started to write the next three and had to make myself stop. I enjoy the writing so much, but the promotion side of it doesn't hold my interest as easily. I am trying to change that and really think more like a business person. I am itching to get back to daily writing though because I can see where the story is going and I want to fill in all the blanks!

Just do it! Don't over think it. Just get started and move forward every day. If you do one thing each day to further your writing, even if it's just a paragraph or a few minutes spent on research, you will be moving forward and closer to your goal. And start telling people you are a writer; see how it feels to talk about it out loud with others and make it real.

I love being creative in general, whether it's writing or painting or even gardening. It's my happy place. I would love to get to a point where I can do it full time. As a writer, you can create any world you want. The only limitation is your own imagination. I love sharing my books with young readers and having them ask me questions about all the characters; it makes me feel like my characters are real. They are real to me, and seeing them through children's eyes, breathes even more life into them.

For me, the creativity comes in spurts.I really believe in following my inspiration daily. When I get hit with ideas, I try really hard to follow that energy and drop everything I am doing and make time to write. If the dishes pile up or the laundry goes days without getting done, that's okay with me. I know the creative streak will dry up eventually and I will get back to doing those things. I am not great at just sitting down and turning it on. With the way i work, I don't really experience writer's block all that much. I just wait for the ideas to start flowing again and get back to work when they do. I find I always have more ideas than I know what to do with so I think even if I had a deadline I would be okay. I never know where the inspiration is going to come from, but anything little thing can trigger an idea. It could be a song on the radio, or watching kids playing on a playground. I just try really hard to be open and let it all flow in and I know something will spark me back up before long! I guess I just have faith that even when nothing is happening, it won't be long before I am overflowing again with ideas so I don't stress too much about it.

I got the idea for my books while touring with my old band Reno. We spent months in a bus crisscrossing the states in 2000. I spent many hours deep in thought. Somehow the idea that we may all have worlds that live within us popped into my head. I don't really know where the thought came from, but I immediately started picture this character, Little Benny, and all his little worlds and I started writing. At first i thought it would animated and I wrote it more like a screenplay, then it turned into a book series.
