Interacting with readers. Having a reader mention something that you did not state explicitly. It's one thing to describe an object as a "blue sphere" and have the reader say "there was a blue sphere in the book" but it's another thing for them to say "You know, I just felt that he was hiding something... just a hunch."
That kind of nuance that can be picked up by a reader is just exciting—especially when an author puts so much effort into embedding it subtly. It's the best experience I can ask for.
The Sword and the Sunflower trilogy is filled with that.

Thank you, podcast listener, I appreciate it! ;)
With the release of The Status Game II, I decided to take a hard look at audiobooks for both of them. I'm registered with ACX and created a few test recordings. They have very specific requirements for room tone, compression, dropoff, etc. Though my studio for podcasts is more than sufficient for podcasting, I don't have the sound-booth quality of silence needed for a proper audiobook.
And, although it is a fun read and I can narrate the book in the proper snarky but helpful tone, alas unless my facilities change it may be a job for someone else.

From the previous book! Let me explain. I had just finished The Status Game and thought I covered everything I needed. I didn't. Writing that was like revealing that there is an invisible world - and that allowed me to expand on it. What started out as notes "for later" turned into chapters, and then an entirely new book - three months later. Yikes.

Well, let's define what that is. I think most people think your brain just shuts down and doesn't want to write. That never happens to me. I always want to write about something. I went through a period where I was working on four writing projects at once, so I would switch back and forth. that switching uses a lot of energy. So now I focus on one until it is done. Since I've done that, I experience something like writer's block - I know I need to write more but am not sure if I want to go a certain direction. I find that in the end it's because I'm focusing on the wrong part of the story. So I re-read it and feel for the missing piece. That and martinis. Lots of martinis. No, just kidding.
PS - The writing group I used to be a part of was called "Writers Bloc." Ha!

Write. That's it. Just write. Without you putting the effort into writing, all the other advice is useless. All the advice about structure and style, all the advice about how to be inspired, all the great bullets on how to sell your work is meaningless.
Just write. What you want to write will come out. What you are good at writing about will be revealed. And the rest will follow.

Four things:
A coaching/balance book about how to have more Time, Energy and Resources in your life. This book stems from the system I created to coach others.
A book about dating. I built a dating site from scratch, and have learned quite a bit. It's tongue in cheek but still full of info.
The sequel to God's Jester
A secret project
