The inspiration for Chrissy's Mysteries came from my own sweet little Shih Tzu, Chrissy, and her story, as well as the increased use of emotional support dogs to reduce anxiety. Dogs can heal and also need healing. Learning to open our hearts to give and receive love helps us overcome the most challenging situations. Throughout the series, you'll experience Autumn's and Chrissy's personal journeys, as they solve crimes in their small Pennsylvania town of Knollwood.

Experience everything you can. See if you can put a new twist on an old idea or way of being. Explore ideas and brainstorm storylines with people you trust. Also, don't share your writing before it's ready or with people who do not like the genre you write in. The feedback you receive may take you off center and put doubt in your mind as to the storyline or idea. Read books and articles about story development, sentence structure, writing in your genre, and improving your writing overall. Get a good manuscript editing software program to run your manuscript through before sending it to a human editor. Seeing your writing patterns helps improve your writing going forward. Read various authors in your genre, along with the reviews on Goodreads and Amazon to see where they succeeded and where the book fell short with their audience. Happy writing!

Everything inspires a story or a question to answer. Interactions with people, observing relationships between others, a news story, something I see in nature, a personal experience - all of these sparks a "what if" moment that turns into a story or collection of stories such as Trips to the Edge, Coven: The Scrolls of the Four Winds, or Thorne Manor and other bizarre tales. Or the experience may turn into a book to help people overcome challenges, like with my books, The Happiness Perspective: Seeing Your Life Differently or The True Nature of Energy: Transforming Anxiety into Tranquility.

The second book is moving along and a preview of Book Two, tentatively titled Chrissy and the Dog-eared Diary will appear at the end of the first book in the series.

Living with the characters and exploring a fictional world in the case of storytelling and sharing them with others to give them an escape from daily life is fun. In the case of writing non-fiction, learning, creating, and expanding philosophies that help people apply the information for their personal benefit is exciting and rewarding.

When I get stuck on a manuscript, I read through from the beginning and see if there is a plot point or characterization that needs to change to move the story forward later in the story. If that is not the issue, then I get something to eat or drink or take a walk with my dog in the neighborhood or in the park. The movement and change in environment spark new ideas and allows me to take the story in new directions. If the manuscript is non-fiction, a switch to writing a different chapter helps keep up momentum in the book's progress.
