Goodreads asked Diane Wing:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Diane Wing Experience everything you can. See if you can put a new twist on an old idea or way of being. Explore ideas and brainstorm storylines with people you trust. Also, don't share your writing before it's ready or with people who do not like the genre you write in. The feedback you receive may take you off center and put doubt in your mind as to the storyline or idea. Read books and articles about story development, sentence structure, writing in your genre, and improving your writing overall. Get a good manuscript editing software program to run your manuscript through before sending it to a human editor. Seeing your writing patterns helps improve your writing going forward. Read various authors in your genre, along with the reviews on Goodreads and Amazon to see where they succeeded and where the book fell short with their audience. Happy writing!
