Sharon Clark The kidnapping or brutal murder of my child. Then either the attempts to locate the kidnapper or the devastation and unraveling of my life following the death of my child.
Sharon Clark I love legal thrillers. One of my all-time favourite books is "The Lincoln Lawyer" by Michael Connelly. I also love the early books by John Grisham. Therefore, I would be a jury member in an interesting trial.
Sharon Clark Medical mystery books, especially by Michael Palmer. I just finished his book "The Patient" and I enjoyed it very much.
Sharon Clark My latest book was "11X Magic". I have been fascinated with math all of my life and without it we would not have computers, airplanes, cell phones, TV and numerous other devices that have become a regular part of our lives. It is essential for the next generation to have competent math skills. But, because so many children fear or hate math, I want them to see that often learning it can be fun and even magical. So, I've looked for patterns in math that can help young children learn concepts in a fun way.
Sharon Clark Various ways.

When my baby boy, Jeffery, was diagnosed with a brain tumour I felt a need to inform other parents of what to expect and the pitfalls to avoid.

When I was doing an undergraduate science degree, Botany and Zoology were requirements. I was floored by all the amazing things I was learning. It instilled in me a life-long love of nature and I wondered why I had never been introduced to any of this in childhood. Yet my children had no interest in nature books that I tried to introduce them to. Their response was "boring Mom!" So, I decided that I wanted to write nature books in a story format as a way to make learning fun. My math books are whimsical and set to rhyme. And I have been fortunate to have found Roberto Gonzalez who has done beautiful graphic illustrations for these books.
Sharon Clark I've had a novel, "Timelag" in the works for many years. A personal tragedy has sidelined this project for now, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to resume work on it in the not-too-distant future.

For now my focus has been on fun and educational picture books for kids. Currently, I have 3 books in a nature series and 2 books in a math series. I'm presently doing research in math topics, as I would like to do a third book in this series.
Sharon Clark Get all the help you can at being the best writer you can be. Take creative writing courses, ensure your spelling and grammar skills are excellent and if they need improving, take appropriate English classes. Read, read, read. Learn from best-selling authors. If a book I've read was so compelling that I didn't want to put it down, then I ask myself what were the elements of the book that were so engaging. Perhaps I can incorporate some of them into my work.
Sharon Clark For my picture books, it is to write fun books that will introduce nature or math to children in such a way that they will be in awe of what they are learning.

For a novel that I've been working on, "Timelag", it is Inventing interesting "what if?" scenarios that could have social implications. In this book, the theme is "what If we could stop the aging process?"
Sharon Clark I change my focus temporarily, either to another writing project, other writing responsibilities such as updating websites or taking some time to enjoy nature. Often such a break will bring fresh inspiration to the original project.
