Nikolas Larum Fascinating! My Aunt Katy is the Larum family genealogist. I sent your answer to her to see if there is a connection. I am second generation Larum born in the United States. My grandfather and his siblings immigrated from Norway, just south of Oslo. Larum is a rare surname even in Norway.

In English, larum is a shortened form of alarum (modern alarm). It shows up in Taming of the Shrew, "Have I not in pitched battle heard loud 'larums, neighing steeds, and trumpets clang?" My bunch of Larums are a loud, gregarious bunch, so the surname is appropriate in both languages. :-)

Glad to meet you and share reading and writing interests.

Warm regards,
Nikolas
Nikolas Larum In recent fiction, it would have to be Peeta and Katniss.
Nikolas Larum I am a big fan of spy stories. I wondered what it would look like if the typical assassin/spy was shown to be on a spiritual journey. Furthermore, what if that spy moved within marginalized society instead of high-rolling casinos or high-tech hideouts? Rat-gêló is just such a spy, a protagonist unlike any other in the genre that I have ever encountered. He is the Gypsy Spy.
Nikolas Larum Reading, meditating (in the contemplative sense), and music.
Nikolas Larum My blogs are currently receiving most of my writing attention. They are:
gypsyspy.com - dedicated to Gypsy Spy: The Cold War Files.
thebiblephiles.wordpress.com - devotional Bible studies.
larumland.wordpress.com - life stories and social commentary.

In addition, I am framing up the sequel to Gypsy Spy and also have a book on the Holy Spirit in the works.
Nikolas Larum Read. Read fiction. Read non-fiction. Read poetry. Read plays. Read on anything and everything that interests you - and even things that don't. Above all, read actively. Engage with the thoughts of the author. Agree, argue, dialogue with pen in hand in the margins. Underline turns of phrase that appeal to you and look up words you don't understand.
Nikolas Larum Being able to share your thoughts and imaginations with others.
Nikolas Larum Over the years, I've learned that "writer's block" is simply a symptom that tells you that you aren't ready to write yet. Nothing to stress about. Do a little more research, take a walk, read a good story, watch a movie. Let the incubator work. When it's ready, it will spill on the page.

Another great key I discovered was to not write myself out. If I was working on a scene or a chapter, I would stop before it was completed with a small note to myself of where we were going. Whenever I came back to the page, the pump was already primed.
