Hi Nikolas, great to meet you! I used the name Larum for my writing because it was my grandmother's maiden name. She was Fanny Larum who was brought up in South Bank near Middlesbrough in the NE of England. She had a brother called George and I believe he emigrated to Australia and has family there. Fanny was my Dad's mother and I was lucky enough to know her until she died when I was 8 years old. ?

My grandfather and his siblings immigrated from Norway, just south of Oslo. Larum is a rare surname even in Norway.

In English, larum is a shortened form of alarum (modern alarm). It shows up in Taming of the Shrew, "Have I not in pitched battle heard loud 'larums, neighing steeds, and trumpets clang?" My bunch of Larums are a loud, gregarious bunch, so the surname is appropriate in both languages. :-)
