I looked over part one of Secret of the Sixth Magic. As far as I can tell, the chapters are in the order I intended. Yes, there are flashbacks to earlier events as the story unfolds. The first chapter is out of place in the hopes of enticing a reader to want to read more and then flashing back to the beginning.
Authors, or at least myself in any case, always has the struggle of, on one hand, telling a face-paced story, and, on the other, giving the reader background information that he should know even if doing so slows things down.
The flashbacks in the subsequent parts are where they are for the same reason.
Thanks for asking.

Hi Andrew
I checked my master copy of Secret of the Sixth Magic (Kindle edition) and see no scrambled chapters. I will check what the uploaded file to Amazon looks like. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. (or perhaps you are a prankster, too?)

Thanks for the great question.
Getting audio versions of my books produced is definitely on the todo list. But first I am in the midst of finishing up book five. If all goes well, audio versions will be available in 2019.

Yes, I am writing more fantasy. Right now I'm about half way through the first draft of book 5 of Magic by the numbers. Heretofore, all of my books have been standalone. Each had totally different characters. You could read one without having to read the others in order. Book 5 is a little different. It, too, could be read out of order, but Briana and Fig from book 4 are the main characters.
If you have a chance, maybe you could consider adding a review on Amazon for book 4. Since I have been out of the saddle for around thirty years, I really would appreciate hearing what people think about book four.
Thanks for the question.

Hi Patrick
I am happy to hear that you have bought MFM and hope you enjoy it.
The basic plot flow of the two editions is the same, but there are some differences in the second edition:
1. Added some chapters in both the beginning and ending -
Some more backstory on Alodar
Longer final confrontation
2. Added an author's afterward
How I came to write the book and what I wanted to achieve
3. Added a glossary
Links to wikipedia for all of the (perhaps) unusual terms
A few extra little jokes

Hi James
Inspiration? Yes, when I was a teenager I very much enjoyed Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics -- three short simple concepts from which a wealth of stories evolved. I was also a big fantasy fan, and I couldn't help wondering if the same concept - stories rooted solidly in underlying laws could be used for fantsy as well as science fiction. Many years later when I decided to start writing, that was my starting point.
Thanks for the question.

As a small boy, when gazing into a fire, I always wondered what caused me to watch in fascination the dance of the flame. What possibly could be responsible for that? In real life, I never discovered the answer -- but in fantasy I did when I wrote Master of the Five Magics
