“Indie/newbie writing. Why only moments matter. What to do when you're connected to a dozen hospital machines and have to pee. Serious stuff. ;-)” Gary Henson

Gary Henson The Emerald City of the Oz stories.
I'd spend my days discussing the Universe with the Wizard of Oz.
Gary Henson I'm continuing to find and read new indie writers like "Evangelicals in Hell (Myriads of Hell Book 1)" by JC Paulk and "Earth Unknown (Forgotten Earth Book 1)" by M.R. Forbes.
I reread "Alice in Wonderland: The Complete Collection" by Lewis Carroll.
I'm reading Gary Sinise's book 'Grateful American' and several US Naval histories.
In my free time I'm writing book 5 of my funny adventure SciFi series 'The Adventures of Arlo and Jake".
Gary Henson The 'Arlo and Jake' SciFi series is pure fun and and adventure. A reviewer called it 'hard' SciFi with a funny bone. Jake is a retired nuclear submariner and software geek (amazingly parallel to my own careers! ;-) who has retired to the beach with his pet chameleon, Arlo.
He's 'conscripted' by a trio of beauties that turn out to be officers on a huge interstellar battleship and they him to join the fight to protect species like humans from some real nasties.

'Genome' is a more serious techno thriller with a paranormal (ghosts to old farts like me ;-) bent. It also features 'PIP', an AI character I'm bringing out in books of her own.
It's set in Boulder, CO, where I grew up. I drew heavily on my 30 years as a software geek, adding spice here and there with the way I always wanted a software company to be. Fun!

Please let me know if you pick any of these up and what you think. Reviews are always welcome.

Gary Henson 'Etchings' came from an art project that my wife told me about. In high school, her art class would go to local cemeteries and do etchings or 'rubbings'. This is where you put a piece of thin paper over a gravestone and rub charcoal over the paper to bring out the writing, etc.
Then they would go back and talk about the people and what the rubbings could tell them.
Gary Henson I just find it's a lot of fun to let my imaginary characters get out and play. I just write about what they are doing.
Gary Henson Book Three of my SciFi adventure series 'Arlo and Jake', where Arlo gets lizard-napped into slavery!

And a novelette called 'Etchings' about an artist and historian couple that find a strange, secluded cemetery, set apart from the main graveyard in a mountain ghost town.
Gary Henson Don't fret about your work. Just let your muse take control and go with it. You'll get discipline as you go, the most important thing is that you write. Every day. You'll get better, don't worry about it.
Gary Henson Let my imagination free and then looking back at the finished story. It always amazes me.
Gary Henson Lots of ways.
- stop writing for a day and watch old movies, like 'Gamma Men from Mars' or any Red Skelton movie.
- take a completely off the wall tangent in the story and let it just go anywhere. once that path plays out, I generally find I can focus again. Bonus that now I have cool short story to work on! ;-)
- grab a pad of paper, a plate of nachos and a glass of Texas Rodeo Red and hit the patio. Then I just doodle or sketch or write about sometime stupid to get my mind out of the rut.
