Marcia E. Letaw Hi Horst, Happy New Year!
The Ambassadors is one of those books I feel I should read but don't want to, so I was very happy to read your review and to thereby be released from that particular duty.
Marcia E. Letaw Yes, many years ago and I loved it! I'm going to put it on my re-read list, something for the future, but for today I'm going to investigate Rulfo. The library only has The Burning Plain so I'll start with that.
Marcia E. Letaw The inspiration for Raskolnikov's Disorder was a painting by the French artist Leon Matthieu Cochereau: Portrait of the Artist in his Studio. I kept staring at it, and as I did so, it began to seem to me that he was waiting for someone to release him from imprisonment as if he had painted himself into the painting. From that thought, the two sisters Rhenium and Astatine were born. They too heard his cry for help and responded, but bear in mind: At least one of them suffers from Raskolnikov's Disorder.
Marcia E. Letaw Simoom, first book in the trilogy: Weird Sisters Concerto, a murder mystery of epic proportions with some physics based magical realism. It's actually complete, but I'm waiting on the book cover art. The short story: "A Fulgurite in Blue" (marcialetaw.com) is taken from Simoom.
Marcia E. Letaw I was attracted by your rating of Far From the Madding Crowd which happens to be one of my all time favorite books along with some other of Hardy's novels. Also, I noticed that you are from Germany which is on my list of favorite countries due to the fact of having lived there for a couple of years, Heidelberg.
