Goodreads asked Marcia E. Letaw:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Marcia E. Letaw The inspiration for Raskolnikov's Disorder was a painting by the French artist Leon Matthieu Cochereau: Portrait of the Artist in his Studio. I kept staring at it, and as I did so, it began to seem to me that he was waiting for someone to release him from imprisonment as if he had painted himself into the painting. From that thought, the two sisters Rhenium and Astatine were born. They too heard his cry for help and responded, but bear in mind: At least one of them suffers from Raskolnikov's Disorder.
