This is an excellent question for a short story writer. In my case, I have written over 90 stories to date. Ideas give me the inspiration, but where do these come from? Many come from my own experiences in life while others, like in my story 'The Empty Room' (which is in my latest book to come out next month), was from a really weird dream. Stories often just come into my head and I have already three lodged there, ready and waiting for a fourth book. Sometimes I can go dry for several months and I find the same situation in writing poetry.

Hey, we all have a story or two to tell, but writers do need to first have an ability in writing. How well you did on writing school and university assignments may be a good indication. Secondly, while I am a short story writer doesn't mean that I will have the skills to be a novelist and visa versa. There are different skill-sets in each genre.
I guess the best approach is to give it a go then ask others what they think before you look to publishing.

I am currently in the final stages of preparing my third book of short stories for publication. This book will comprise 30 short stories plus a small number of stories from a guest writer. The 30 plus stories will be based in the following countries: New Zealand, England, Fiji, China, Japan and Zambia.Similarly to my second book, Bumpy Roads, there will be twists and turns, humour and stories to provoke thought. I expect this book to come out in late March. My facebook site is https://www.facebook.com/brianwilsona...

The best thing about being a writer is in bringing humour into other people's lives. Life is short and busy, but we need to step back and find the funny side of life as well as enjoying the journey.

Excellent question. My experience is that you need to differentiate between styles of writing. When I completed my Masters thesis it was all about meeting a deadline. It was a case of just long hours of writing and preparing graphs and charts. In short story writing it is different as this is creative and you need to first have a good story and second to be in the mood. I find that it is harder when I stop writing for a period to get back into the mood. I have just completed my third book and this has taken much longer than planned.

This is a collection of 30 short stories. My short stories are about life so I often use life experiences as a basis, though my stories are works of fiction. There are varying degrees of truth. My next book will be published about March.
