C.H. Clepitt Ha! Ahahahaha! Really? I think I have about twelve fans, maybe thirteen.... My general advice to people wanting to increase their reach would be to be open and approachable. Talk to people and get yourself out there. If anyone has an actual answer to this question as a result of their thousands of fans, do let us know!
C.H. Clepitt It seems that my TBR pile just keeps growing! Whilst I'm not very good at using Goodreads (I know, I'm sorry, must try harder!) I'm doing my best now to post reviews here when I finish a book. I think it would simply take too long, however to find and add ALL the books I want to read! On my immediate future list I have Darkly Dreaming, by Chloe Hammond, some shorts by N.C. Stow, Once Upon a Time in the North, by Philip Pullman, The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry, Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, The Muse by Jessie Burton, Jill by Rose Montague and I want to finish up my first edition of North and South by Mrs Gaskell. Is that enough for now?
C.H. Clepitt What on Earth happens to the socks that you put into the washing machine?
C.H. Clepitt I have strong feelings about the very unscientific badger cull, which resorted in me taking to Twitter as a badger. Now I'd rather be a badger than anything else, the best people follow badgers.
C.H. Clepitt I don't necessarily read a specific genre, but I am very picky about what I read. If something doesn't grab me straight away, I don't bother. Life is too short!
C.H. Clepitt There's no point outlining the story, the characters do what they want anyway! You can try and guide them in a direction, but if they don't like it, they sulk, and that's when writers' block happens. Best just setting it up and leaving them to it!
C.H. Clepitt Sadly not, no. I would love to meet a badger, maybe it could be my spirit guide?
C.H. Clepitt I tried a bit of horror, got about 4 chapters in and gave up. That happens sometimes, you just can't get into it. My books tend to encompass most of the genres I enjoy, so I think I've got most of my bases covered on that front. The challenge for me is to stick to one specific genre, so mostly I just don't bother!
C.H. Clepitt Ooo, tough one! I had real fun with I Wore Heels to the Apocalypse, the characters were great and I had so much positive feedback that I'm doing a sequel. That said, I think The Book of Abisan, is more epic, and intense, and more your standard fantasy fair. I recently reedited it to remove the typos that you get blind to if you edit too close to writing, and as I was reading it I was still really impressed with myself, even after however many years it was! I might do a sequel to that one too!
C.H. Clepitt I think it sets me in good stead re pacing, research and working to deadlines. Writing news, interviewing people or reviewing things is different to writing fiction though, they are different skills. I think completing a master's degree in English Literature was the biggest influence on my writing, as I have studied and critiqued a wide variety of classics, and understand structure and pacing. Also, grammar, punctuation, spelling and sentence structure. All very useful as a writer!
C.H. Clepitt Tough one! I love Philip Pullman, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. However, I think my favourite author is Virginia Woolf, because as soon as I started reading her books I felt like I was in her head, like I could have written this. Even though she'd been dead a long time before I discovered her writing it made me feel as though we were connected. Is that weird?
C.H. Clepitt The ending. I'm rubbish at endings so all of my books are a bit open ended. This is because if you aren't going to kill off all of your characters then it isn't the end for them, just for the reader.
C.H. Clepitt Not most, but most of them have comic elements, because life isn't serious all the time. I Wore Heels to the Apocalypse is very satirical. A Reason to Stay is more social satire, and The Book of Abisan is straight up fantasy, with a feminist twist.
C.H. Clepitt Whenever I'm supposed to be doing something else! Story ideas could come anywhere, when I'm out on a walk, at the shops, in the cinema. Anywhere except if I have a pen in my hand and am trying to think of one!
C.H. Clepitt I like to think that all of my books carry an important message and encourage the reader to think. I hope that they are still entertaining, though, or what's the point?
C.H. Clepitt I don't write in a specific genre, I like to cover all of my bases!! I Wore Heels to the Apocalypse is a mixture of political and social satire, and comedic sci fi. I am currently writing the sequel, which is, to all intents and purposes a super hero spoof! I like to keep you guessing!
C.H. Clepitt Wow! I am so proud to be compared to Firefly! I LOVE Joss Whedon! (Not in a creepy way!)

I don't like labels, or having to fit my writing, or myself for that matter into neat little boxes. Genre is restrictive and annoying. So, why not have fairies in space? Believing that fairies are real (why not? They could be!), means they must have come from somewhere, so why not another planet?
C.H. Clepitt It recently came to my attention through a news article on the internet that there is a lot of violence against transgender people, much of which goes unreported. Most of my writing carries the message of mutual respect and acceptance, and I wanted to use the Sci Fi Genre to take this a step further. By having a lead character that has no gender I am hopefully asking people to change their expectations and explore things from a different angle. Of course it is still fun and exciting, it wouldn't be my style if it wasn't!!
C.H. Clepitt Writing is a form of escape. I find that making myself find the time to write allows me to destress at the end of a hard day. My inspirations mostly come from social injustice and things that I find upsetting. There may be nothing I can do to change this World, but the worlds I invent are completely under my control!!
C.H. Clepitt I am currently working on the second part of the Crew Chronicles series. This is a series of Sci Fi shorts released on Kindle and structured very much like a television series. If you have read and enjoyed "Pilot" the sequel should be released very shortly.
