Thanks for your support, Marilyn. I was prepared to write a sequel when my publisher told me that sequels don't sell very well. Instead, I started a new book with new characters. If you subscribe to my monthly newsletter, I will keep you updated on my progress! https://www.elinorflorence.com/blog

What a clever girl you are, Lana! Yes, I am deep into reading about pioneer life in preparation for tackling my next novel.

I'm really torn among three worlds:
1. I would love to attend a ball in the days of Jane Austen, wearing a ruffled and flounced ball gown;
2. Because of the research I did into my wartime novel Bird's Eye View, I yearn to don an air force uniform and experience the comradeship of fighting a common enemy;
3. I'm currently immersed in pioneer history because of my new novel Wildwood, and long to face the challenge of settling in a new country.

Someone who reads my Wartime Wednesdays blog sent me a bracelet that once belonged to someone in the Royal Canadian Air Force Women's Division, with the initial J.M.J. Barnes. The sender found it in her uncle's possessions after he died. Who was this mysterious woman and why did her uncle have the bracelet? I have searched far and wide for J.M.J. Barnes, without success. Here you can read the post I wrote about The Bracelet Mystery. www.elinorflorence.com/blog/118330.

There are so many wonderful couples -- but I will go with my first thought and say Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. Their witty repartee and their smouldering chemistry makes for the most compelling love story.

Thanks, Gary, I will check it out.

Thanks for the feedback. Music to my ears! I'm working on a novel about pioneer life, a different but equally fascinating aspect of Canadian history. It might take a while to get published, though!

Thanks, Gracie -- enjoy the book.

Hello, Norma Iris -- I think any good book will take you away to another time and place. And while I was writing the book, that definitely happened to me. I was so immersed in the time period that I hated to leave it. I found wartime expressions creeping into my speech! How I wish I could time travel back into the 1940s. I suppose all historical writers feel the same way.

I read D. E. Stevenson years ago. Thanks for reminding me -- I will start with Miss Buncle's Book as I don't remember that one.

Thank you, Kelly-Lynne. I look forward to meeting you in Winnipeg!

I love old houses, because they are structurally beautiful, and filled with ghosts. I decided to write a novel in which the old house itself is as important as the character.

Inspiration is not the problem. I am inspired by reading books, meeting and listening to people, and observing nature. The challenge is to follow through.

I'm writing my second novel about a young single mother who inherits an abandoned farmhouse in northern Alberta, on condition that she lives there for one year. To fulfill this obligation, she must learn how to survive off the grid, in a very unfriendly environment.

I have encountered many talented writers, but the single quality that sets apart the successful ones is self-discipline.

I can follow my heart, work at my own pace, and answer to nobody.

I follow one writer's advice, who said: "Plumbers don't get plumber's block. They just go ahead and do their job." I grit my teeth and soldier on.
