Have you read any D E Stevenson? Her books are starting to appear for Kindle, some at bargain rates. I have read and loved her books for decades. She lived and wrote in the 30s and 40s, and some of the books don't have a real ending because the war was still being fought. If you like Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, you'll like Stevenson. Miss Buncle's Book is a good place to start.

While writing the story, did you feel yourself living in that moment--that time and space? Sometimes reading takes my senses to the story's place, and I feel a connection.
