Laura Perry Horror isn't my usual genre, but I'll give it a go anyway:

I was enjoying the hike, the fresh air, listening to the sounds of my brother's footsteps as he followed behind me in the woods. Then I remembered he died two years ago.
Laura Perry Oh, that's a hard one - there are so many good choices! I've been thinking lately about one of my all-time favorite books, The Hounds of the Morrigan by Pat O'Shea. If I had the choice, today I'd travel to the world of that book, to the version of Ireland that's timeless and where the gods and goddesses interact with human beings as part of the normal course of things. There's so much magic in that story - I'd want to explore the countryside and see who I meet, whether the goddess Brigid and the Dagda show up, and Aengus Og and all the others. I would hope, though, that if the Morrigan is in a bad mood, she keeps her distance!
Laura Perry I have quite a to-read stack already. I'm partway through Vicki Noble's awesome book The Double Goddess. After that I have The Herb Gardener's Essential Guide by Sandra Kynes, Elen Sentier's new Pagan Portals book about Merlin, and Intelligent Designing for Amateurs by Nimue Brown. I'm also intending to read the Game of Thrones books - I can only imagine how much the TV show is leaving out, since those books are huge, and I want the whole story!
Laura Perry That's a tough one, since my life has been fairly ordinary in most regards. Maybe all those items that have been lost over the years... that one red mitten, the favorite piece of jewelry that disappeared, the special book that went missing... I can see having them as the crux of a fantasy story in which there are other beings that steal human belongings, but only ones with great sentimental value, and then feed off the emotional energy in those items.
Laura Perry My favorites change over time as I read new books and re-read old favorites. I'd say that right now, my favorite fictional couple is Ada and Inman from Charles Frazier's novel Cold Mountain. I realize that the overall tale is fairly sad, but Ada and Inman both find their own inner strength over the course of the story. Even when they're apart, each of their journeys is strengthened by the thought of the other, and in the end they help each other find redemption.
Laura Perry Hi Jeffrey,

I'm sorry, but I don't have any used copies of my books to send out, just new ones. Have you considered joining one of the book swap sites like BookMooch (http://bookmooch.com/) or PaperBackswap (http://www.paperbackswap.com/index.php)? You can trade books you've already read for new ones, and all it costs you is the postage, which should be pretty low if you're trading within your own country.

Best wishes,
Laura
Laura Perry Write. Keep writing. Don't stop. It's so easy to get discouraged, especially when non-writers comment that writing somehow doesn't count as 'real work.' It is real work, absolutely. And as with any skill, the more you do it, the better you get, especially if you read and study good writers along the way. It's also important to realize that your writing doesn't have to be perfect the moment it hits the page. There's an impression that great writers have some sort of magic that allows them to just dribble perfect prose, line after line, but that's not true at all. Every writer edits, re-writes, and edits again, tweaking that prose until it's just right. So give yourself a break. Just get it down on paper (or the computer screen) first, then fix it up until it's to your liking. And don't quit, no matter what kind of idiotic comments people make.
Laura Perry I have just completed a Tarot deck with artwork in the style of the ancient Minoan frescoes. The Minoan Tarot deck and its companion book (not just a little booklet) will be published by Schiffer Publishing. So instead of taking on a new project at the moment, I'm working on getting the deck and the book manuscript ready for publication, which will probably be early 2017. You can find out about the deck and keep up with the publication process and release dates on the website http://www.minoantarot.com/ or the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MinoanTarot
Laura Perry My inspiration for Jaguar Sky came from a trip to Belize. I explored the Maya sacred sites and began imagining the characters running around the temple ruins. I guess you could say the site itself became a character for me.

As for my non-fiction books, they have grown out of my spiritual practice. I guess my driving force with all of them has been pretty much the same: I couldn't find the book I wanted out there, so I felt compelled to write it myself.
Laura Perry I have a really short attention span, so I rarely work for more than an hour at a time without a break. If I get stuck, I stop writing and go do something else. Writing is such an intellectual activity, I like to shift to doing a really physical activity like gardening or cleaning the house. That allows my brain to shut off for a little while instead of continuously fighting against whatever blockage I'm trying to deal with. Often, while I'm focusing on pulling weeds or mopping the floor, an idea will just pop into my mind that solves the problem I was facing. It's not a failsafe method by any means but it works more often than not.
