Hi Paul,
I have book of Chomsky's more noted work and have watched the documentary Manufacturing Consent, which spells out many of his ideas on mass media and information control.
I think he's contributed to my world view in that I value commentary that looks critically, even harshly, at the underlying attitudes in mainstream society.
I share with Mr Chomsky a sense that I am not part of that mainstream and hence at times feel rather at odds with the world.
In that sense, he has influenced the tone of my writing, if not the subject matter.

Many years ago, I travelled into Australia's red centre - in search of alien life, believe it or not! I firmly believed at the time I had a chance of a close encounter and camped out in the desert outside Alice Springs awaiting the arrival. That didn't happen, but it was quite an adventure, tinged with strange dreams and the mystery of that amazing eternal landscape. From there, my story went in many different directions before ending up on its current trajectory.

I rely heavily upon my subconscious to direct me toward ideas and concepts that excite me. And then I read and research until I'm confident I can build a world that will be convincing and intriguing. When my mind has the seed of an idea it's like a dog with a bone, except that instead of getting smaller and smaller, my bone keeps getting bigger.

Get working and don't stop. But make sure you love it because you'll have to weather a storm of letdowns and disappointments to get anywhere.

I'm currently recording an audio book version of Blank, and will soon begin writing a sequel.

Disappearing into a world entirely of my own creation and being surprised by what I find there is the most amazing thing. Sometimes it's hard to come back from there.
