I rely heavily upon my subconscious to direct me toward ideas and concepts that excite me. And then I read and research until I'm confident I can build a world that will be convincing and intriguing. When my mind has the seed of an idea it's like a dog with a bone, except that instead of getting smaller and smaller, my bone keeps getting bigger.
