Became vegetarian after writing MEAT. Fond of meditation, unfathomable questions and cats.

Repped by Robert Dinsdale.

I'd love to never make another writing mistake.

That seems unlikely, though, as I make them every time I touch the keyboard. It's a hassle of course, but the reality is that all those howlers and blunders have been gold in terms of developing better work.

That said, I try to take longer in the planning stages these days, to avoid running into road blocks and dead ends once the writing itself begins. I avoid embarking on ideas that don't absolutely fascinate me. In the writing itself, I try to be less visible and let the story be the strongest voice.

Because I've wasted so much energy on doubt, rage and frustration over the years, I've learnt that suffering doesn't help the process. Writing ought to be a happy process, right? So, I'm still working on that...

“The Earth was not dead. She had been sick, yes, weakened by an infestation. Now she was ridding herself of it. For those who remained alive the choice was a simple one, whether they realised it yet or not: Work with the land-- respect it and give back to it-- or die.”
Joseph D'Lacey, Black Feathers

“I never told you this enough- it's a failing between all men, I think, but too often of fathers to their sons- I love you. When you came into the world, you brought me a new purpose and a new drive. Suddenly , I was not just a parent, I was a guardian too.”
Joseph D'Lacey, Black Feathers

“He couldn't think of his robbed left eye without hate squirting into his veins from some deep poison gland he hadn't known he possessed.”
Joseph D'Lacey, Black Feathers
