Anne was born and brought up in Guernsey but now lives in Worcestershire with her husband, three delightful chickens (‘the girls’), a skinny country garden, and a paddock where she grows her own veg. She loves to make time for leisurely meals with friends, days out walking the hills, and cosying up by the fire with a good book.

Anne's passion is to bring the bible’s teachings alive to our daily reality; helping us understand it, and making it accessible in ways that inspire application to our lives at a deeper level. She does this through writing books, blogs, articles and bible study notes, as well as preaching and speaking at churches, conferences and seminars throughout England.

I've also loved Anne Lamott's unusual but brilliant book on writing, 'Bird by Bird', and a few days ago began 'The Girl in the Spider's Web' by David Lagersrantz. So far it's a page turner! (less)

Isaiah

Firstly, my warm wishes to you all for 2026:
May you know the sustaining comfort and reassurance of God’s hand holding yours as you step into all this year holds (Isaiah 41:10, 13).

It would be easy to think I randomly plucked out Isaiah 43:19 as an appropriate word for the start of a New Year. In fact, it has been brewing on my heart for some weeks, alongside gentle but repeated guidance I have se

Harold S. Kushner
“Pain is the price we pay for being alive. Dead cells—our hair, our fingernails—can’t feel pain; they cannot feel anything. When we understand that, our question will change from, “Why do we have to feel pain?” to “What do we do with our pain so that it becomes meaningful and not just pointless empty suffering?”
Harold S. Kushner, When Bad Things Happen to Good People

Harold S. Kushner
“We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to end war; For we know that You have made the world in a way That man must find his own path to peace Within himself and with his neighbor. We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to end starvation; For you have already given us the resources With which to feed the entire world If we would only use them wisely. We cannot merely pray to You, O God, To root out prejudice, For You have already given us eyes With which to see the good in all men If we would only use them rightly. We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to end despair, For You have already given us the power To clear away slums and to give hope If we would only use our power justly. We cannot merely pray to You, O God, to end disease, For you have already given us great minds with which To search out cures and healing, If we would only use them constructively. Therefore we pray to You instead, O God, For strength, determination, and willpower, To do instead of just to pray, To become instead of merely to wish. Jack Riemer, Likrat Shabbat”
Harold S. Kushner, When Bad Things Happen to Good People

Dorothy L. Sayers
“For whatever reason God chose to make man as he is— limited and suffering and subject to sorrows and death—He had the honesty and the courage to take His own medicine. Whatever game He is playing with His creation, He has kept His own rules and played fair. He can exact nothing from man that He has not exacted from Himself. He has Himself gone through the whole of human experience, from the trivial irritations of family life and the cramping restrictions of hard work and lack of money to the worst horrors of pain and humiliation, defeat, despair and death. When He was a man, He played the man. He was born in poverty and died in disgrace and thought it well worthwhile.”
Dorothy L. Sayers, Creed or Chaos? and Lost Tools of Learning

Eleanor Roosevelt
“To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.”
Eleanor Roosevelt

Mother Teresa
“God does not require that we be successful only that we be faithful.”
Mother Teresa
