Jane Holland is an award-winning British poet and novelist, and proud mum of five amazing kids. The middle child of romance legend Charlotte Lamb, she grew up in Essex and the Isle of Man, but now lives in Cornwall. As Jane Holland, she writes poetry, thrillers, historical suspense and some romance. She also writes commercial women's fiction as Betty Walker, best known for her Cornish Girls wartime sagas. I actually came up with the idea several years ago, before the big wave of 'sister' thrillers swept the charts. But at the time I submitted the idea, my editor didn't like it. So it was shelved. Later, she changed her mind and asked me to write it after all. By then 'sister' books were everywhere, and I was a little concerned people would see it as me jumping on a bandwagon. But I did my best, and wrote it in two months, so quite quickly. I can't immediately recall the 'spark' that led me to the idea, but I suspect it came out of an even earlier 'sisters' story I had been writing 3-4 years ago but also shelved, that time because the plot ran aground. That one was about twin sisters, a light romantic suspense novel. I probably had that story in my head and started wondering, as writers do, 'What if ...?' and that's where the basic idea came from. Maybe one day I'll work out how to fix that earlier story and keep going with that one too, as the set-up was very different to FORGET HER NAME. Thanks so much for contacting me! Jane (less)

Farewell, Harlequin Mills and Boon!

I was utterly thrilled in 2022 to be offered a 2-book contract by Harlequin Mills and Boon after DECADES of trying to write for them.

It was also a marvellous heart-hug to hold my first book with them, as my late mother was Charlotte Lamb, a major Mills and Boon writer in her day, and I grew up reading and loving her romances...

Sadly, the reception to my debut was mixed, and it was soon apparent t Read more of this blog post »

From other reviews here, it is also clear that this book changes the minds of those pre-disposed to see Hughes as a monster. Personally, I came to it loving Hughes's entire body of work and bitterly disappointed

"Engrossing

Absolutely unputdownable. A haunting tale of love, betrayal and redemption. Keeps you guessing til the final denouement. I cannot resent the sleep I lost while feverishly reading through the twists and turns. "

“The seasonal urge is strong in poets. Milton wrote chiefly in winter. Keats looked for spring to wake him up (as it did in the miraculous months of April and May, 1819). Burns chose autumn. Longfellow liked the month of September. Shelley flourished in the hot months. Some poets, like Wordsworth, have gone outdoors to work. Others, like Auden, keep to the curtained room. Schiller needed the smell of rotten apples about him to make a poem. Tennyson and Walter de la Mare had to smoke. Auden drinks lots of tea, Spender coffee; Hart Crane drank alcohol. Pope, Byron, and William Morris were creative late at night. And so it goes.”
