Like this Series of Mysteries
It seems a good time to express my favorable impressions of works by Tony Hillerman and his daughter Anne Hillerman. I have been a fan of Tony's books about the Navajo Tribal Police in the characters of Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee and all his inventory of great characters for many years now. I especially enjoyed a Thief of Time, Hunting for Badger, Skinwalkers, and Listening Woman.
His first novel was The Blessing Way. This effort was followed by many others that identified with the culture of the Navajo and other Nations in the Three Corners country of Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. I cannot offer enough encouragement for you readers to delve into the beautiful writing of this author to experience the awesome desert environment of this area and the very rich culture of the Native Nations that have lived here for centuries.
Anne Hillerman has continued in her fathers' path of mysteries series with Song of the Cougar, Rock with Wings, Cave of Bones and several more at the time of this writing. In her books she still deals with crimes to be solved by Chee and Leaphorn with the help of Bernie Manuelito who was introduced in some of Tony's books as a rookie Navajo Tribal Officer, she becomes more of the main character as the series progresses.
Anne stresses the conflicts of the Navajo and Pueblo cultures in the modern world and the issues of an officer of the Navajo Nation in addressing the issues of current generation gaps and how the Navajo people deal with all these changes.
This is a great series of novels and it seems to improve with each book. Please join me in reading and enjoying the works of Tony and Anne Hillerman, I know you will be glad you did.
