I've been working on it every day whenever I can find the time (not easy with a day job and three kids). The next book will be more complex than Interest so it will take longer to write. I'm hoping to have my second novel published within the next two years. Fingers crossed!(less)

I force myself to sit down at the same time every day to write at least one page - even if I'm tired, sick, or busy. No excuses are allowed. Surgery? Car got stolen? House burned down? Doesn't matter; I must write one page. That's the deal I have with myself: a one-page minimum no matter what.

Also, it helps me to make lists of ideas when I'm feeling creative so that I'll have ideas to flesh out on the days when I'm feeling not so creative.(less)

“Len once came to the uncomfortable realization that salesmanship was the key to upward mobility in all careers. You could pretend you were above it, he begrudged, but the truth was you either had to master salesmanship or you’d spend the rest of your life begging for table scraps.”
Kevin Gaughen, Interest

“America’s number-one enemy, Lenny, is the scumbags who rule her.”
Kevin Gaughen, Interest

“Saskels, the second type of human. Saskels are designed to do tedious labor without questioning those ruling over them. Saskels have low to average mental abilities and ostensibly have the ability to reason through minor problems. However, they are genetically engineered to not trust their own thoughts and to have a deep fear of losing their security. They are terrified of having to think, or fend, for themselves. This inborn insecurity causes them to constantly seek external guidance and to obey authority, no matter how irrational or malevolent that authority is.”
Kevin Gaughen, Principal

E.L. Doctorow

“When you repeat a behavior over time, your brain learns to automate the process. It's more energy efficient to automatically do something than to manually weigh your options and decide to act the same way every time. When you make a decision very quickly, it is probably from habit, even if you think you're actively deciding. In a way, you made the decision a while ago.”

“The third-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the majority. A second-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the minority. A first-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking.”
A.A. Milne
