Forget Me Not by K. Carr
“Have you had any recollections from your past? Anything at all?”
“No,” he muttered. “Nothing.”
“Nothing?”
Jared’s head snapped up. “Nothing.” he bit out. He took a deep breath, flashed his psychiatrist an apologetic grimace before continuing, “I mean, sometimes I might get a feeling, I would be in the middle of doing something and a random thought or feeling might jump into my head. But it’s gone before I can even begin to decipher it.”
“These random thoughts,” Dr Kathleen asked. “Can you tell me what they are?” She gently pressed, “If you can remember that is. You’ve not mentioned this in any of our previous sessions.”
Jared shrugged and slumped back against the couch. “I don’t know. It’s only been a recent...development. Unimportant things. Silly things. Erm. Last week, Simone and I were visiting my parents, and we went out for a meal at this new Japanese restaurant close to where they live.” He rubbed his hands together and began to tap his right foot over the carpeted floor. “I don’t

Forget Me Not by K. Carr
“An hour later after I had waved Leigh and Neil off, and Cordelia was using the bathroom before they left, Isaac pulled me aside.
“You have enough money, yeah?” he asked in a hushed tone while my mom tried to give Vivi a bottle. She was over-stimulated, and a little nap wouldn’t do her any harm. “Because if you need-”
“I’m fine,” I cut him off. I tried not to sound irritated, but he must’ve picked up on it from my expression.
“Ok,” He frowned. “But if you did need some money, you know you can ask me. Ok?”
“Isaac,” I shook my head. “I’ve got this.”
He raised one eyebrow.
I had to laugh. “First Leigh, now you. Do I look like a pauper?”
He shrugged. “I’ve seen you in that exact outfit more times than I care to remember, and your nails are raggedy. When last have you had a manicure? Your nails were always on point before.”
I let out a low gasp of…playful outrage or acute embarrassment? “Whatever. You clown. I’m not on the poverty line just yet.”

Forget Me Not by K. Carr
“I exhaled in a breath of despondent irritation. “But that means I’ll have two jobs, the design side of things plus this,” I jabbed an unhappy finger at the screen. “This yuckiness. That doesn’t sound fair.” It wasn’t, come to think of it. Jared’s mouth slanted to the corner and I expounded on my point. “You run the business side, Kevin and Elspeth do designs, yet I’m doing designs plus the business shit now? That sucks.”
Jared smirked. “You’re cute.”
“Thank you.” I agreed with the sentiment. “As are you, but my cuteness has no bearing on this.”
“I know,” he wrapped his arms around my waist and leaned back in the chair. “But I wanted to throw it out there. You’re very cute when you try to shirk your responsibilities.”
“Does this new role come with a pay raise?” I drawled.
Jared let one of his hands slide to my ass where he landed a light pat. “Wages are fixed for the near future, besides you get extra payments in kind almost every single day. What would Kevin and Elspeth say if they kne

“The fuck you are.” Matt growled in my ear. “There is no way you’re leaving me to raise two babies on my own. Stop talking out your arse and focus.” “Rightly”

“There it was. The death knell of my absolute faith in him. I couldn’t breathe, so sharp was the pain in my chest. He needed time. Everything was always on his time. Almost everything he asked of me, I did. The one time I needed him to trust me…he couldn’t do it.”

“But know this,” Matt continued, eyebrows lowering in warning. “I will not let you or any member of your family hurt her again. I won’t tolerate anyone hurting her. Madison is the most important person in my life, she’s everything to me and I will do everything in my power to ensure no one hurts her. I love her too damn much to allow that.”

“What have you talked about then?” Alec didn’t like how jealous he sounded, but it couldn’t be helped. Ever since Charlie had come home he didn’t know how to feel about her. It was impossible to just wipe out all the love he’d carried for her for so many years, every time he looked at his sons he saw her in them. He had tried to move on, he had moved on, but a part of him would always love her. Everything he had learnt about being a man, a lover, a true friend, a father; all these things he had learnt with her right by his side. She had made him her constant in a world where she had never known true stability, and he had loved her all the more for it.
But just as it was impossible to stop loving her, the same could be said when it came to hating her. He f*** ing hated her. He loved her with the same intensity of hating her.”

“Oliver is my son too,” I was afraid and rightly so. What if Alec banned me from seeing my boys? I was an absent parent, an absent mother. Somehow that seemed worse. I was fully prepared for the judgemental opinions of others which would no doubt be lobbied at me the moment everyone knew I was back. But I had refused to entertain the thought Alec would stop me from seeing our boys. I had abandoned them but I hadn’t stopped loving them. Not a day went by without them being the first thing on my mind when I woke up and the last thing I thought about before going to sleep. I was probably the worst mother alive but I bloody loved my boys, and heaven help anyone who called my love into question.”

“Connor stared at me while our respective lawyers each began threatening legal repercussions on our behalf. He didn’t look shocked, just resigned. And tired, he looked so tired. I knew, like me, he probably hadn’t been getting much sleep. “I won’t let you take her away from me.” he warned, his tone was tender though, firm but laced with tenderness. I hated the fact my heart still felt as if it belonged to him. I hated the fact I still loved him. He loved me too. Glaring at him, I snorted derisively. If I couldn’t stop loving him, I would make him stop loving me.”
