Chuck Abdella is a history teacher at St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury, MA. He describes himself as: “A history teacher, indie writer, world-saver, superhero (if you believe the rumors), and youth softball coach. Not necessarily in that order.” His newest book, (set in not-so-dark academia) "Casual Monsters", reminds us that, "the fangs don't make the monster." Chuck’s four-book high fantasy series, "The Outcasts: The Lies of Autumn", "The Darkest Forests", "Whispers of Spring", and "A Flicker of Hope", has been enjoyed by readers on six continents. In 2021 and 2022, Chuck wrote a contemporary YA fantasy duology, set in a high school. "The Sun and the Moon" and its sequel, "Shadows and Stars" speak to anyone who has ever wondered if the ...more

A pretty good book with a Roman flavor and a “Hunger Games” competition. I don’t mind a 600+ page book. I read a lot of fantasy. But I feel like 100-200 pages could have been edited out to keep the story from dragging at points.
