Cubs’ Imanaga, two relievers, no-hit Pirates at Wrigley
The Chicago Cubs’ Shota Imanaga and two relievers combined to no-hit the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night, marking the Cubs’ first no-no at Wrigley Field since 1972.
Imanaga tossed 7 innings of no-hit ball, and Nate Pearson and Porter Hodge contributed an inning each to the gem, which ended in a score of 12-0. The combined effort was the first Cubs’ Wrigley no-hitter since Milt Pappas blanked the San Diego Padres in 1972.

Astros’ Blanco no-hits Blue Jays
The Houston Astros’ Ronel Blanco no-hit the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night for a 10-0 win at Minute Maid Park.
Blanco struck out 7 and issued a pair of walks (both to George Springer), tossing 105 pitches to make history.
It was the Astros 17th no-hitter, and the eighth against the Blue Jays. Blanco’s gem is the earliest no-hitter on the calendar, topping Hideo Nomo’s April 4, 2001 no-no by three days.

Phillies’ Lorenzen no-hits Nats — first vs. franchise since move to D.C.
The Philadelphia Phillies Michael Lorenzen no-hit the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night, marking the first no-hitter against the franchise since its move to D.C.
Lorenzen, pitching in just his second game since his trade from Detroit, struck out five and walked four as the Phillies topped the Nats 7-0.
The Washington Nationals franchise was last no-hit in 1999 when they were the Montreal Expos, when David Cone tossed a perfect game at Yankee Stadium on July 18, 1999.
The last Phillies no-hitter was in 2015, when Cole Hamels tossed a Wrigley Field gem against the Chicago Cubs.

Houston Astros’ Valdez no-hits Cleveland Guardians
The Houston Astros’ Framber Valdez no-hit the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night, walking just one while facing the minimum 27 batters.
Valdez’s 93-pitch gem, which resulted in a 2-0 victory at Minute Maid Park, marked the 16th no-no for a franchise that joined the majors in 1962 (that’s an average of one every four years!). The Astros have three of the majors’ last five no-hitters, through Valdez’s accomplishment marked the team’s first single pitcher effort since the 2019 one thrown by Justin Verlander.
It was the 15th no-hitter thrown against Cleveland’s American League franchise but the first under its relatively new “Guardians” moniker.
The Guardians’ only baserunner was Oscar Gonzalez — who walked in the fifth inning — but he was retired on a double play.

Last four no-hitters end on same play
The majors’ last four no-hitters (317-320) have all ended on groundouts to third, marking just the second time in history that four consecutive no-nos ended on the same play.
The Tigers’ July 8 combined no-hitter, Domingo Germán’s June 28 perfecto, and the Astros’ 2022 World Series and regular-season combined no-hitters all ended with third basemen fielding grounders and throwing to first for plays scored 5-3.
That has only happened one other time, when no-hitters 259-262 all ended on strikeouts, though technically two were marked as forward Ks and two were scribbled as backward Ks. The Red Sox’s Clay Buchholz (Sept. 1, 2007) and Jon Lester (May 19, 2008), the Cubs’ Carlos Zambrano (Sept. 14, 2008) and the Giants’ Jonathan Sanchez (July 10, 2009) all ended their no-hitters with strikeouts, with Buchholz and Sanchez catching their victims looking and Lester and Zambrano inducing swings and misses.
The previous record for consecutive 5-3-ending no-nos was two, accomplished twice. The Cleveland Naps’ Addie Joss closed both his 1910 and 1911 no-nos with grounders to third, and the Yankees’ “Sad” Sam Jones and the Boston Red Sox’s Howard Ehmke closed their 1923 no-nos against the Philadelphia Athletics with 5-3 outs.

Tigers’ trio teams up for no-no against Blue Jays
A trio of Detroit Tigers tossed a no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday for a 2-0 victory at Comerica Park.
Starting pitcher Matt Manning kicked off the effort with 6⅔ hitless of no-hit ball before handing it to right-hander Jason Foley, who finished off the seventh. Foley also pitched a 1-2-3 eighth, and closer Alex Lange sealed the no-no with a perfect ninth.
Manning struck out five and walked three, which accounted for the Blue Jays’ only baserunners.
The combined effort — major-league baseball’s 20th — was Detroit’s first no-no since Spencer Turnbill’s effort in Seattle during the 2021 season. The Blue Jays were last held hitless in 2019, when the Houston Astros’ Justin Verlander tossed one at Rogers Centre.
