I grew up in England's West Country - one of the world's leading producers of strange names for small villages. I now live in Seattle - the only American city with exactly the same climate.

When I'm not reading, writing, mentoring students and adults (richardfarr.net), or staring out of the window, I enjoy running, hiking and sea kayaking.

Hi JJ!

Thanks for that "awesome" - I'll pin it on my cork board! In short: I wrote TFS because a lot of sci-fi thrillers are written around strange things happening in alternative worlds, and I think we have a real mystery in *this* world ("What is consciousness? Why does it exist? Where did it come from?") that's deeper and cooler than any of them.

Glad you liked it, and the good news is that the sequel, Ghosts in the Machine, is all done, and it will be out on Sept 20th. It will take you to a very strange place! Check out my website, www.richardfarr.net, where there's a link to the pre-order page. I hope you like it too - working on #3 now. All the best, Richard(less)

“You poor things. You think that learning is remembering. No wonder you find it so dull. Real learning is hunting for the truth.”
Richard Farr, The Truth About Constance Weaver

“like all mathematicians, I think there must be something else, powerful and ghostly and unseen, that lies beneath the surface of the physical world. Numbers are just one of several things that don’t make sense otherwise. Your father studies the painting. And that’s fine. But I’m interested in the canvas under the paint.”
Richard Farr, The Fire Seekers

“Americans call it a cell. A small locked room from which you can’t escape! We Brits call it a mobile—a colorful toy you suspend over a drooling infant’s crib.”
Richard Farr, The Fire Seekers
