Ellis "Elle" Pierre, known online as Boxfulthoughts (they/he) is a transmasc cartoonist and illustrator living in Carborro, North Carolina.

Tapping into the warm, nostalgic feelings of innocence and wonder from childhood, Elle strives to create a softer, kinder world through their art and stories, placing a strong emphasis on friendship and the importance of community. He hopes to create characters that become readers' lifelong BFFs and worlds that feel like home. As a neurodivergent individual (Autism/C-PTSD), Elle knows firsthand the impact a good story can have on a kid navigating the ever-confusing and complex world of growing up a bit outside the norm.

Elle has done color work for such graphic novels as Twins (Scholastic 2020), Shiny Mis

Hi! This is kind of lengthy, so bear with me:

For starters, I joined the Goodreads Author Program and became an active member of the community. Having is outlet to connect with your readers is probably the first most crucial aspect of promoting your books. Second is advertising!

Currently I have several ads circulating for my picture book Tip & Lulu: A tale of two friends thanks to their Self-Served Advertising feature, found here: https://www.goodreads.com/advertisers.

From time to time I'll offer review copies of my books to gain more reviews. Studies show that online shoppers will browse through the product reviews before making a purchase, so it's especially important to have a couple reviews.

Join a few groups pertaining to your specific interests (YA, Picture books, etc.) and make connections with other writers and potential readers, but always do more than promote yourself! Talk about your favorite books and follow users with similar interests. Be a part of the community!

So I guess, tl;dr: My strategy involves being active, advertising, and making connections with fellow readers and writers.

I hope this answers your question! Let me know if you'd like me to elaborate on anything specific!

Edit: Though I have yet to try this, it's a good idea to sign up for Twitter and be a part of their author communities as well. Posting things that are relevant on a regular basis helps people get to know you more, thus stirring up interests in you and your work!(less)

“There are things you can't back down on, things you gotta take a stand on. But it's up to you to decide what them things are. You have to demand respect in this world, ain't nobody just gonna hand it to you. How you carry yourself, what you stand for--that's how you gain respect. But, little one, ain't nobody's respect worth more than your own.”

I love how Laura Ingalls Wilder describes how her family ate... it always made me hungry! lol

I'm actually more familiar with the 2000s Berenstain bears cartoon cartoon than the actual books; we do own a couple of assorted titles though!
