The pu…moreI can't believe I am only seeing this message now! I apologize and hope that, in the intervening time, you have found a solution to this issue. The publishing industry has changed so swiftly that whatever today's statistics may be, it is impossible to predict what the market will be like by the time you finish your book. The best advice I can give you is to listen to no one but your muse. Write the book she sends you. Pay no attention to your "competition." The only real competition you have is discouragement, distraction, and procrastination. So put those blinders on and look neither to the left nor the right -- plow straight ahead and get it written. The vast majority of writers never get past Chapter 3. (In fact, one of the truest bits of advice I ever received about writing a novel is: "Write Chapter One. Write Chapter Two. Write Chapter Three. Throw away Chapter One." -- because the most common rookie mistake is starting the book well ahead of the actual story!) Once you have a completed manuscript, you are already ahead of the game. Just get there. Good luck.(less)

The Barely-Remembered Blog

I just noticed that my last blog entry was in January of 2020. Some of you may be wondering if I perished in the COVID pandemic.

You would be forgiven for thinking so, especially since I last released a book in (gulp) 2017. I may have been featured in one or two of those “where are they now?” stories. I know for a fact that some over-zealous genealogist on FamilySearch listed me as deceased (somet

“Very well,” said George equably. “I’ve no objection. Be as generous as you like. It will compromise me, of course, to accept expensive presents from you, especially items of a highly personal nature. But I rely upon your sense of honor and fair play. I am confident you will offer me marriage rather than ruin me—” Olivia choked. “And I suppose you intend to accept my offer.” “I certainly do. I can barely contain myself, anticipating the moment when you kneel and request my hand.”
