Georgette Kaplan was born in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, to Eileen, a dancer, and Barry, a street merchant and lounge singer. She was a Diver on the British National Diving Team and finished twelfth in the World Championships in 1992. She has also been a fashion model, black market salesman and finally of course, actor. She received the audition for her debut role as Bacon in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) through French Connection, for whom she was modeling. They became a major investor in the film and introduced her to Guy Ritchie, who invited her to audition for a part in the film by challenging her to impersonate an illegal street vendor and convince him to purchase fake jewelry.

Cigarettes? Newsletter? Substack?

Seems like every post of advice for aspiring authors is that they should have a newsletter, so does that sound like a good idea? I don't know how many followers I have, much less how many of them are bots, and this isn't exactly a blogging platform. Tumblr's dead, Twitter's... X. So if anyone's going to hear what I think about movies, it might as well be in e-mail.

It's not much more than the sum of its parts. There's a convoluted setup where our hero ends up going undercover as his partner while *the partner* is going undercover as an efficiency expert, then people start dying, so Wonderboy has to figure out w ...more

Well, this is just fucking Pandorum (2009) now isn't it? There's no real horror elements. The monsters are thinly described and lack any of the charm you want from a good creature feature. There's maybe a dozen characters but none of them have much i ...more

Two novellas. The first is pretty standard cops and robbers stuff--fun in a Tracer Bullet sorta way, but obviously lesser Spillane. The plot hinges on the hero getting wind of his superior being corrupt, not having any proof, then marching into his o ...more

Five hundred pages, brother, show mercy. To give you an idea of how overwritten this is, we start off with our hero Bannon laid up in the hospital in 1946 or so. He's given a bunch of research on an old case that I guess roughly corresponds to these ...more

Kinda feels like a swollen novella. For a hundred pages, the narrator goes on about his ennui as a student, then a hundred pages about his time in the military, then a hundred pages about his life as a drug addict and bank robber. Half the time the p ...more

In a phrase, too much of a good thing. At almost three hundred pages, it's too long for a pulpy thrill ride and it gets to the point where it's working against its premise of setting an adventure on Route 66. Because there's a time when every reveal ...more

Son, I am disappoint.

From top to bottom, this book is just milquetoast. It's a fast read, but with nothing that sticks to the ribs. And aside from some graphic violence, it's thoroughly YA, reminding me a LOT of Sky High only without the charm and wh

2.5 stars. An old-school melodrama with so much loving that it'd be softcore if all the prose wasn't so purple. Frigid Elizabeth Carnes is unhappy in her marriage to George and so steps out on him with Jim, a hippie-drippie artise who constantly nave ...more

“In ten years, I'll fight for you. And in twenty years, I'll fight for you. At the end of time, I'll fight for you. Because you don't make me happy. You are my happiness. And I think I'm yours.”
Georgette Kaplan, Scissor Link

“Gracie’s mouth went dry. One thousand a day? Just for sex? She’d heard that lesbians kept going and going like the Energizer Bunny”

“We were back over on the East Side, at a little, smoky black juke joint called the Congo Bongo Club, having a beer. Well, Leonard was having a beer. I was having a nonalcoholic beer. The place served them, but they seemed embarrassed about it. The bartender, who was also the waiter, kinda slunk over and put it on the table like a patient giving a pretty nurse a urine sample.”
