But I belong in my own world of Earden, I made it, it's mine, the places and peoples...the undiscovered territories...There I think I would be a bum...just wandering around, trying to remain unseen, stealing pies out of window sills, watching everything, and since the stories go in chronological order, I'd love to start from the moment Aolwynd opens the gate and lets Boru and his soldiers into her courtyard.(less)

Between the two of them they seem to be running the Guardian's Palace, Alan is a kind of Master of Household and Fructus is head cook of the palace kitchens. Writing their back story and using them to watch the action and discover what's going on has been a lot of fun. It just goes to show you that the characters you create take on a life of their own, these two have definitely jumped in to the story with both feet, The fact that it is a gay couple appealed to me very much, as I have consistently tried to show constant, loving couples, no matter the preference of gender, even villains have had their hearts broken! When I imagine what they look like, and all authors do (although we may try not to influence the reader), I see John Rhys-Davies as the burley and good-hearted Bell and Ian McKellen as the imperious Devers.(less)

Illustrating What's in Your Head!

Over the course of the last year and a half, (and I guess Covid made it possible) i have drawn over 120 pen and ink illustrations to go with the text of all five books. It's something I've always wanted to do. When you write and create art you move back and forth in both worlds and I've always had images in my mind exactly like a movie playing in my head. A lot of authors have this and I'm please Read more of this blog post »

Great read and great collab. Hope there's more. What I admire most about Remain is how that extraordinary M. Night feeling comes across! Congrats to Sparks. Shyamalan has this amazing ability to embed the un-nerving 'Other'(whether it is a ghost, a d ...more

Katabasis by R.F. Kuang
"If nothing else, Kuang is always capable of surprising me. I did not expect to love Babel’s hefty prose as much as I did, nor did I expect to find Yellowface as unfunny as it was. Katabasis is unique in that it is bereft of anything particularly good" Read more of this review »

This book...jeez, I did read all the way to the end, something I rarely do if I'm not enjoying a book. Shouldn't pay any attention to the "I'll scratch your back cover if you'll scratch mine...etc. author's comments but they were all so glowing.

Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury
"I had an incredibly hard time reading this book, especially considering it's a 300-page linear story about an evil circus coming to a small town. I think it's because — unlike Fahrenheit 451 — Bradbury overwrote this book to the point of it being den" Read more of this review »

So many people love this classic and yet, the florid, psychedelic poetry of it, dated it. The father son story, that I liked.
