Tony Pibb started writing children’s books to tell stories of bravery, integrity, and self-awareness. His characters are kids who find themselves in tough positions, but find the right way out, even if it’s not the easy way. All stories have valuable lessons woven into the adventures.
Tony loves to spend all day with his family, playing soccer in the backyard, and going for hikes.

On the one hand, I feel that there are stories in me that want to get out. When a story develops in my head, I get restless until it’s put down on paper (at least as a project to come back to later). So writing is almost a need that needs to be fulfilled. On the other hand, I love seeing stories develop under my own hands. It’s wonderful to make something and see it grow through your hard work. To see when the dots connect, when your characters start feeling like their own people, and when you can get everything to a good ending. And to share that with children (most of whom I don’t even know) feels like a privilege. I remember reading my first books as a kid, and how I was immersed in a different world; to do the same for someone else is really amazing.
There are other parts, too. I like that writing is something I can do while I spend my time at home. I know my ego loves it when people read my books, too. I like getting better at something I spend my time and energy on. And just like that, there are many tiny reasons being a writer is the best (I know that turns the question upside down, but I can do that). But the two reasons above are definitely the most important.(less)

Usually, I have a faint idea and then I spent some time putting down everything I do know about the idea, and then over time, I'll get more ideas until there's enough to sit down and write a draft (fancy word for two pages out of a notebook with random sentences and arrows). That's my planning for the entire process. The moment I sit down, I try to zoom in on what's right ahead, but the further away the story is, the blurrier it still is in my mind.
I do know that the fastest way to get inspired is to work on my story every day. The more I just sit down and write, the more ideas come to me. (less)
In the last two blog posts (here and here), I’ve talked about big influences that inspire the world that Fitz the Friendly Pirate roams. But the research doesn’t stop at those tangible resources. As I write more, I find myself inclined to make sure that things line up. I believe that the more I know about the world of a 17th- century pirate (or seaman), the better I’m able to create a compelling w
