However, I also hope that readers notice how the issues of classism, misinformed masses, and the way religion interacts with the state affect all kinds of governments, real or imagined. Perhaps, we ourselves do not receive "enlightenment" when we come of age, as Myla did, but that doesn't mean we can't be aware of the issues around us.(less)

I was seventeen and finishing my senior year of high school. My AP World History teacher, Dr. Susan Groppi, instructed us to write a short story from the perspective of someone in either the Aztec or the Mayan civilization. The result was only four pages long, but that summer, I spent time exploring it further. I never dreamed it would come this far.

As featured in Forbes, BuzzFeed, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert!

In an effort to pay homage to Paul Giamatti and other unrecognized souls, Val Bodurtha and two of her favorite collaborators from years past, Sophie Mann and Rebecca Shaw, have been campaigning tirelessly to install a wax figure of the actor Paul Giamatti at Madame Tussauds in New York.

With some help from Stephen Colbert:

“Val tells Forbes: We ardently believe that that in the back of everyone’s minds is a wax figure of Paul Giamatti, a physical manifestation of something or someone deserving going unnoticed for too long. Maybe your Wax Paul Giamatti is your friend who deserves that promotion and is continually passed over. Maybe it’s that album you adored that didn’t even score a Grammy nomination. Or maybe your Wax Paul Giamatti you, every time you sell yourself short. In short, we didn’t know it then, but by the time we reached the end of the museum, his absence was not only felt, it was mourned.”
Val Bodurtha

“The country is pretty divided right now. We think that this is one thing that can unite everyone - Bodurtha told TimeOutNY on 7/25 for its article about her efforts to convince Madame Toussaud to include a wax likeness of Paul Giamatti in its collection.”
