Born in Washington and raised in Oregon, I moved around a lot in my early years due to my father's ever-changing employment while I was young. I saw much of the greater Portland suburban areas as a result, and didn't settle down into any one place for long until I was about 10. It was at that age that I first took a vested interest in writing, as well as becoming more interested than ever in reading. That was also the age that I vowed to protect my mother from my father, whose mental issues were starting to surface. I didn't word it to them like that, of course, because I didn't want my father to know that I knew something was wrong with him. 10 was a busy age for me.

Preferably something completely unrelated to your writing. Clear your mind to the point that you're not thinking about your writing at all, then when you've got your focus back, do what you do to get your best writing ideas and let the ideas flow naturally once more. Remember, writer's block is a form of burnout, and the best solution to any form of burnout is distance plus time. So the sooner you do that, the better.(less)
