Todd Mika (born 1985) is a fantasy writer based out of the American Midwest.

As a young boy, he was captivated by classic literature: Longfellow's musings, Poe's madness, Tolstoy's lamentations, Dickens' tales, Shakespeare's sonnets, and Doyle's mysteries. By middle school he was penning heroic-fantasy game ideas and Star Wars fanfiction, which evolved into tabletop roleplaying games to play out his original stories with family and friends. In 2015 he self-published Grimmgard, an original roleplaying game book, and in 2020 he published Tales from Grimmgard: An Anthology of Dark Fantasy. His newest book is Grimmgard: Heirs of Destruction!

I usually jump in somewhere around page 70-100, when the first big thing happens that I'm excited to write about. When I get stuck, I jump forward again to the next thing I'm excited to write about. So you could say I jump over the writer's blocks instead of dealing with them.(less)

Don't wait to get to that one scene you're dying to write. Start writing the part of the story that is most exciting to you! It just might give you inspiration for how you want the story to begin or end... and it might be even better than you originally planned!(less)

JessMH shared a highlight from
Grimmgard by Todd Mika
How ironic that such a transformative thought would plant itself in her just from opening a book and reading it… Ironic because that is what every bookworm believes a book can do but only experiences it with the right book.

JessMH shared a highlight from
Grimmgard by Todd Mika
"The death of a parent changes you. It makes you doubt things. It makes you afraid of things you were never afraid of before, as if only once they are gone do you realize what silent reassurance their life gave you. There is a strange despair after loss, and that despair brings out a different side of us."

“But here is my riddle: if given the choice to stand out from the crowd or blend in, why choose the latter? Why settle for being the rain when you can be the thunder?”
Todd Mika, Grimmgard: Heirs of Destruction

“Most of the big things in the world didn’t happen because someone was particularly wise, brave, or talented, but because there was someone who didn’t give up.”
Yoav Blum, The Coincidence Makers

“It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end… because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing… this shadow. Even darkness must pass.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Two Towers

“Perhaps one did not want to be loved so much as to be understood.”
George Orwell, 1984

“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.”
Virginia Woolf, A Room of One’s Own

“Tormented' in a synopsis is a new red flag for bad smut.”
