Do Vision Boards Really Work
I did my research and a majority of the research I did confirmed that vision boards work. If you stay focused on your personal goals; the laws of attraction will work. However, I did find a few people whom the daily acknowledgment of looking at accomplishments that weren’t yet accomplished seemed to rub them the wrong way.
One woman said that it hurt for her to stare at her vision board every single day knowing she had not yet achieved anything from off her board. Finally, she put it away. She hid it in a closet.
Now she pulls it out every so often and because her list of goals is stored in her head when she does pull out her vision board there are things on there that she can check off her to-do-list as COMPLETE.
That way of thinking reminds me of the LET IT GO principal. As a follower of Christ I am to lay my burdens (and petitions) down at God’s feet and leave them there. I don’t have to dwell on them day-in and day-out. I don’t have to pray about them every single day. If I tell God what I’m looking for he will provide. God is a provider.
Believe that and try it. I think the Godly principal works best for me and although I am in the process of creating a vision board I will trust that the Lord will provide all
The next item on my vision board is the coveted NAACP Image award. I would love to receive that award for a novel that I have written that will touch the entire world; and someday soon I will.

Thanks for listening

My Vision Board
Today I am going to start to put together my vision board. I’ve never done one before. The only reason I now feel the need to do a vision board is because I need to focus my attention on accomplishing my personal goals.
When I first considered doing a vision board I wondered if they really work. I often watch Oprah and I have heard her talk about vision boards on a number of occasions, but if I create one will it actually attract my success into the realm of my life. Will it make me more focused? Will it drive me? Will it ignite determination from within?
Vision Boards are a form of positive thinking. It’s also biblical. A lot of Christians believe in the belief of speaking your wants/dreams/goals into existence. The only way God can hear you is if you say it out loud. (I do subscribe to that form of thinking.) I speak and talk with God about many different aspects of my life. But I also, want a physical representation that will be a constant reminder to me.
I have a slew of ideas bouncing around my head (and I’m sure these are God given ideas). Unfortunately, life often gets in the way with bills, family and other commitments. I don’t necessarily take the time needed to spend time on my craft, but that all stops today.
I refuse to allow life to pass me by and live with regrets that I couldn’t keep my “Eyes on the Prize” because I know that everything I want is well within my reach.

The very first item that is going to go up on my vision board is NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER. That is the goal I am shooting for. I know that I have it in me to get my name on this list.
This is will be an on-going blog. So if you have a vision board and would like to share what’s on your board. Please leave me a message. I would love to hear what you want for your future.

Skeletons in my Closet (Excerpt)

Skeletons In My Closet
“Garrett!” A loud boisterous voice interrupted his thoughts. Garrett knew it wasn’t Kiel, his guardian angel, who called his name and the only other person it could be was the Father. His heart nearly stopped at the thought. He stood frozen with fear.
Once Garrett built up the courage to turn around, he looked straight into the face of God. God in all His infinite splendor was a huge beautiful mass of light that had no definition. There was no beginning and no end to Him. He had no physical characteristics. He was simply a mountain of light that engulfed the entire space.
“Oh my God!" Garrett quickly placed his hand over his mouth realizing he used the Lord’s name in vain. "I didn't mean to say that. I meant to say… " He paused and looked up at Kiel. “What I meant to say was?” Garrett searched for the right words to say. "It's God." He trembled. Garrett’s heart thumped hard and fast.
"Don't fear.” Kiel whispered in his ear. "We can see your heart."
This was the first time Garrett actually looked down at himself. He panicked when he saw his heart beating right through his chest. His entire body was no longer covered with his mocha colored skin. His body was translucent. He watched in horror as blood pumped through his veins.
“Don’t be alarmed, like I told you before. You’re still at the in-between point between the spirit world and earth. If you make it into heaven your body will disintegrate and you’ll be completely spirit.”
Kiel took a step forward. "Father." Kiel knelt before God as a servant. "Garrett Dunn is here to account for his sins."
"Garrett, are you at peace?" Instead of sounding like a strong disciplinarian God, sounded more like an old friend.
"Yes, Father." The serene atmosphere helped Garrett be at ease.
"Then I think it's time." At the sound of His voice a huge closet door swung open and thousands of skeletons came running out; each representing every occurrence of sinful thought, word or deed committed by Garrett throughout his life.
One by one they stood in military formation directly in front of Garrett; waiting for him to account for the wrong he had done while on earth.
Garrett’s eyes bulged, and he broke out in a heavy sweat before collapsing to the floor.
Kiel sighed. He knew that this would happen sooner or later, it always did. It’s usually a shock for humans to see how many sins they have committed in their lifetimes. Kiel revived Garrett and once again he faced his sins. The sight of all those skeletons made him weep.
“Father, I had no idea I had committed so many sins against you. I’m embarrassed for having this many skeletons to account for,” Garrett explained.
“Most people believe that once they place that skeleton in the closet, they never have to see it again. That is until they face Me.” God moved around until He stopped at his throne. “Garrett, are you ready to revisit every aspect of your life?” The Father asked.
“Yes.”
Kiel tapped Garrett on his shoulder to get his attention. “God knows when you’re lying.”
“Father, I’m really not ready.” Garrett confessed. “But I realize I have no other choice, but to face my past one final time. I can no longer hide.”
“The truth always works.” Kiel gave Garrett a nod of approval.
“We shall begin.” God replied.

Exercise Your Mind, Body & Soul.
I love to walk. Physical activity allows me to clear my mind and gather my thoughts. It fires up my creativity and allows ideas to form in my mind. It is complete euphoria to work up a sweat and release endorphins from my body.
During my walks I usually listen to podcasts from different preachers from around the country. I have TD Jakes, Joyce Meyers and Andy Stanley. Listening to the word of God while I walk plants seeds within my soul that some times hits a nerve.
The best thing about my time outside is when I get to commune with God. This is my opportunity to just praise Him and thank Him for all He has done for me. Also I get to lay any burdens I may be carrying down at His feet.
I will spend an entire 90-minute walk just thanking Him for all that He has done for me. I enjoy combining these two very important activities because it’s a way to exercise not just my body but also my mind and spirit.
You should try it. Go Ahead. Get out of your chair. Step away from the computer and go get that heart pumping. Thank Jesus for all that He has done and continues to do.
BE THANKFUL!!!!

Living an Above Average Life
God intended for all his children to live an above average life
Usually when someone says to me that I was meant to live an above average life my mind immediately switches gears and I conjure up images of expansive cars, big houses and lots of BLING !!!!
That does not define the term LIVING AN ABOVE AVERAGE LIFE.
The housewife, single father of two, struggling college student and/or individual confined to a wheelchair. God intended for everyone including them to live an extraordinary life.
To live an above average life you will not only want to do your best, but go the extra mile in everything you do. You will want to work, study, or be a remarkable spouse on LEVEL 10.
You don’t have to be an international superstar or great athlete to live the good life. You can do anything with the only the cards you’ve been dealt in life.
If you work in a sweatshop make sure you do the best job then anyone in that sweatshop. Show up to work everyday and early. Establish a good reputation and treat others how you would like to be treated.
If you’re a mother, wife or homemaker; be the best and everything to your family. Do the unexpected for those you love? Husbands, instead of just cutting the grass why don’t you cut the grass and trim the hedges (without being told by your wife). Wives fix your husband lunch in the morning and add a simple note to let him know you still love him. When your husband talks about you he should feel like nobody else can compare to what he has at home.
For me, living an above average life consists of writing the best novel I can and writing something that will make the reader thirst to know more about Jesus.
Don’t settle for anything and being mediocre is a simply unacceptable.
Live that above average life. You deserve nothing less.

Bold Prayers (part 4) I AM 20K in Debt
So here I am. In my new home; I am loving being a home owner. No noisy neighbors. No problems with parking. And NO MORE PAYING RENT.
Don’t get me wrong. Homeownership does come with the reality of not being able to pick up the phone and call maintenance to come fix my leaky faucet, but it is what it is. NOTHING can replace the luxury of being able to decorate my house my way. I can paint the walls and plant flowers. I have my own backyard. I can sit out on my deck and there is nothing like this feeling in the world. I feel blessed.
I can’t say that the road to homeownership was easy or that I did everything the RIGHT WAY. There are plenty of things I should have done differently. Most importantly, I should have paid down most of my debt first.
Remember in a previous post when I said that I had maxed out my credit cards. Well, imagine my surprise when I checked my credit report and it said that I was now twenty thousand dollars in debt. I almost went into a coma (LOL)
Once I had the chance to cope with the reality of carrying so much debt I am now looking forward to PRAYING IT AWAY. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that my financial situation does not bother me, but I have no doubt that my faith in God will carry me through.
As I go through this journey of lowering my debt. Every time I hit a milestone I will share a post about my journey. I am a strong believer that prayer changes things so I will pray on this every day. I refuse to live a life full of debt.
Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender. – Proverbs 22:7
I also need to make some home improvements to my house. I have a lot going on but I am going to trust in the Lord.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart -- Proverbs 3:5
Pray for me & I will pray for you.
For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them. --Matthew 18:20
I believe that I can pay this debt down.
And if you have something that you are believing God for please let me know and I will pray for you.

Bold Prayers (part 3-praying for a home)
Miracle 2
I made my move to Atlanta. I took that 800 mile journey, found an apartment and I also found a part time job to help me offset my moving expenses. Life was good.
After six months of apartment living I was ready to buy a home, but I had no money saved up, I had maxed out most of my credit cards on the move and my credit report was good but it could always use some improvement.
The idea of applying for a mortgage kept playing around in the back of my mind (that was doubt) I kept telling myself out loud that God can do anything but I wouldn’t act on God’s will for my life. I kept thinking that if I just paid down some of my debt I would be in a better position to get approved. Again I prayed. And Prayed. And prayed. I prayed not just for an approval but that my faith in God would be as strong as mustard seed.
If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." Matt. 17:20
Finally I got up the courage to apply. I figured if I was denied at least I would know what parts of my credit I needed to work on.
I WAS APPROVED.
Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know. --Jeremiah 33:3
I could not believe I was approved. My mortgage broker told me to start looking for a house. I started scouring the realtor websites and I happen to come across a home that had just been posted 12 hours prior. It was exactly what I had been looking for. A completely renovated home; 3 bedrooms and 2 ½ bathrooms. Brand new hardwood floors, and all new appliances, fireplace, and huge back yard. I called the realtor. I was the first person to look at it. This was the home I wanted. It was gorgeous. This was my dream house.
I am not going to say that getting into this house was easy cause it wasn’t but I believe that God’s hand was in the purchase of my home. My closing date kept getting pushed back but because of home inspections and requirements from the bank; as a result the purchase price of the house was dropped by fifteen thousand dollar’s I couldn’t believe it my mortgage payment just kept dropping and dropping..
Then finally we get to the closing table and I ended up leaving with two thousand dollars in my pocket. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME

Adversity
Sandra Bland. Trayvon Martin. Eric Garner. Freddie Gray. Mike Brown.
Today is my day to vent.
I’m tired. I don’t know about you, but I am tired. I am sick and tired of reading the same headlines only the date has changed.
Another African-American is killed by the hands of ‘Officer Friendly’. The police. Our nations finest. Those men and woman who vow to serve and protect, have turned into the people I fear the most. Is our justice system configured to give police the authority to kill and mistreat human beings any way they don’t have to suffer any consequences for their conduct? Is that how the justice system in the united states work.
What if …
Sandra Bland was a white woman? Would that cop had treated her any differently? Would he spoken to her in a more pleasant manner? Perhaps he would have repeatedly called her ma’am out of respect. He would have calmly issued her a warning. Told her to drive carefully and Sandra Bland would be alive.
What if…
Travyon Martin was a white kid walking home with a hoody pulled up over his head. George Zimmerman probably wouldn’t have given that kid a second thought. A white kid would have been the furthest thing from George’s mind and the thought that this kid was breaking into houses would have never entered his mind. George Zimmerman would return to his nice warm home to escape the rain and Trayvon would be alive.
What if…
Eric Garner was a white man. Would the NYPD had approached him in the manner that they did. If Eric Garner was a white man they would have quietly pulled him to the side and suggested he not sell loose cigarettes in the open. They may have issued him a stern warning, but they would have been careful to watch their hands and not to touch him. Even if they did put him in a choke hold and wrestle him to the ground the words, “I can’t breathe’ would have prompted them to let up and give the man room to breathe.
Let’s all pray because I’m really at a loss of words on what we are to do and how to bring about real change between race relations in the US.

Bold Prayers (part 2)
Miracle 1
Two years before my move to Atlanta I started praying. My greatest desire at the time was to be a home owner. I had determined that it was MY TIME. I was tired of renting. All my friends and family had homes of their own and I too wanted to share in the American Dream of homeownership in Atlanta. There was only one problem. I was still living in New Jersey. My job was in New Jersey and my career was steadily moving me up that corporate ladder. If I resigned from my position it would probably put me five steps back from where I was currently at financially. I prayed for months and contemplated on what I should do.
Pray without ceasing. I Thess. 5:17
I work for an insurance company that encourages their employees to work from home. However, our department was not structured like the rest of the company. The option of working from home was up to the discretion of the department director and our director had a strict rule. NOBODY WORKS FROM HOME.
After months of prayer I had decided that I wouldn’t wait any longer and it was time for me to make that move. I went to my boss and advised her of my plans to move to Georgia and that I would probably be looking for a new position within the company. A position that would allow me to work from home and log in remotely. While sitting in her office the sun suddenly changed position and the rays from the sun shined directly into her office.
After I told her my plans to move on she suggested that I work from home. She expressed how much she appreciated all my hard work and that she didn’t want to lose me. I was flabbergasted and speechless. No one else in the department was being awarded this opportunity except for me. I knew that was God’s favor.
I will praise the LORD God with a song and a thankful heart.
Psalm 69:30
I said Thank You Lord for months. I felt like the chains had been broken and I was finally on my way. I couldn’t believe I was going to move down south and I wouldn’t have to look for a new job. I could keep my current salary and move to the south where the cost of living is cheaper.
