Krystle Matar has been writing for a long time, but things got serious when Tashué Blackwood walked into her life, an amber-eyed whirlwind. Her debut, Legacy of the Brightwash, is a SPFBO Finalist, an r/Fantasy nominee for Best Debut and Best Indie.

She is currently working on lots of stories set in the Dominion, is 1/2 of the Dripping Bucket Podcast, and is probably obsessively rewatching BBC’s Ripper Street and/or anything that Dennis Lehane worked on like Apple TV's Blackbird.

It allowed me to examine parenthood and family, and let me write a male character who values those things. It let me look at the pressure we put on ourselves as parents, Read more of this blog post »

“Better to be lonely and feel the sharp edges of it, she thought, than to be empty and filled with nothing.”
Krystle Matar, Legacy of the Brightwash

“At least we could have been in pain together instead of me feeling isolated. ”
Krystle Matar, The Alchemy of Sorrow

“Maybe it’s the Dominion way to separate your life from your parents, but Qasani families stay together. They sprawl in their mountain valleys, and they build tight-knit communities. Generations live in the same homes, and they can trace their lineage back to the hands that laid the foundation stones. Or… they could, back when. When they still lived there. Before war between other nations chased them off the mountain. ”
Krystle Matar, The Alchemy of Sorrow

“Jimmy looked back over at his wife, and Celeste could feel the tenderest of aches in the look. She could feel another teardrop piece of Jimmy's heart detach and free-fall down the inside of his chest.”
Dennis Lehane, Mystic River

“People are cruel. You have to know who you are. You have to shout it. Not for them. For yourself.”
Alistair Caradec, The Old Love and the New

“My confidence in telling this story gradually returned, and after a month I could write again; you can judge how well that's going, but at least it's going.”
Michael Pollan, This Is Your Mind on Plants

“Deep down I suspect that many gardeners regard themselves as minor-league alchemists, transforming the dross of compost (and water and sunlight) into substances of rare value and beauty and power.”
Michael Pollan, This Is Your Mind on Plants

“The story so far:
In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.”
Douglas Adams, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
