Other times, I will force a story to continue through an uncertain patch and am often surprised at where it ends up. Many times, I feel that the characters tell me what they want to do rather than the other way around. I started The After House with Eli being a scary menacing figure, and he wouldn't stay that way. I love reading or hearing from people that they were affected by something you wrote, that it touched a nerve. I also enjoy hearing that they were entertained. For me, as I said before, when I write and go back to reread, I am surprised by the direction of where my thoughts were at the time and it makes me reflect about what was going on in my life. Writing is not a commercial activity for me. It's more personal and as such, it reflects what I was thinking about at that time in my life.(less)

“I’m being haunted by Gaspar the Friendly Ghost.”
Michael Phillip Cash, The After House

“This was crazy, the world was upside down. He had to think of something to get the upper hand. After all, who was in command of this ship? He was going to have to pull out all the stops and show this halfling who was in charge. Using all his energy, he turned transparent, his skin sliding off, leaving him a skeleton, his eye sockets empty but for worms. It was no use. The imp of Satan was snoring softly.”
